Around this time of year there are some generous folks out there that donate to various charities and causes and I am reaching out to wave the Wallara flag.
Rather than tell a story about 1 person’s journey at Wallara, I thought this year I would share a few highlights about Wallara’s advocacy work in the community to raise awareness about ALL the people we support because any donations we receive enables us to do more in this unfunded space:
- In February Wallara won 2 awards at the inaugural Australian Disability Service Awards for our innovation and sector leadership.
- In April we held a community rally at Sages Cottage farm to defend the NDIS with all key politicians in attendance.
- As CEO, I was elected to the Victorian National Disability Services State Committee and also sit on the National Committee for Supported Employment.
- ABCTV ran a story on the 730 Report about our Wallara Online’s specially created Respectful Relationships course.
- Wallara Logistics was selected twice by the Dept of Education to deliver air purifiers to Victorian schools to improve their COVID-19 safety, so we were (and are) part of the front-line pandemic response.
- Community radio station RPP FM 98.7 broadcast live from the Sages Cottage Farm 5 times, enabling us to tell stories from staff, families and our clients.
- Wallara Productions – our award winning inhouse media team – has been engaged to produce videos for other disability organisations to help them tell their stories.
- Wallara’s work was featured as part of a David Koch webinar discussing technology in disability services and;
- I am regularly invited to sector and Ministerial roundtables.
Wallara’s mission is to drive social change in our community because we believe that we can change minds and create new opportunities for our clients and families.
That’s why we build partnerships with organisations like St Kilda Football Club and Monash University which give our clients incredible experiences and allows us to reach and educate more people as we go.
It’s why we are so proud of Sages Cottage farm on the Mornington Peninsula, which has a mission to be Australia’s Most Inclusive Farm.
And its why we are so proud to be creating paid jobs and social roles for so many people that we support.
It’s about having a purpose.
