Changes to the NDIS will start from October 2026, including changes to how some funding is made available within NDIS plans. Here’s what families and carers need to know about the changes and where to find more information.
There has been a lot of recent news and discussion about changes to the NDIS, and some details are still being developed. The recent NDIS legislation has passed the Senate and will soon go before the House of Representatives. Many aspects of how the reforms will be implemented will continue to be designed and consulted on over time.
For most clients, there is no need to take immediate action. The NDIA has advised that changes will be introduced gradually, and clients can continue using their current plans and supports while reforms are rolled out.
Please be aware that any phone call from the NDIA is likely part of a plan reassessment or review. It is important to be very clear about the funding you are requesting and the supports you currently use. If it is not a suitable time for you to discuss your plan, you can ask the NDIA to book another call, so you have adequate time to prepare and answer all questions.
What NDIS funding changes are expected from October 2026?
- Up to 50% reductions to Social, Civic & Community Participation budgets as plans are renewed
- Around 10% reductions to Capacity Building – Daily Activities (Improved Daily Living Skills)
At Wallara, we are closely monitoring developments and are committed to helping individuals and families understand what changes may mean for them. We will continue to share practical updates, provide opportunities for discussion through Family Forums, and support clients to prepare for planning and review conversations when needed.
