What is Supported Independent Living (SIL)?

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is support with everyday tasks at home for people who need daily support.

The support you receive is shaped around your needs, routines and goals, while the home is shared with other residents.

Support may include:

  • Personal care and everyday routines.
  • Cooking, shopping and shared meals.
  • Household tasks and daily living skills.
  • Support to take part in your community and activities you enjoy.
  • Living with people who respect your choices and support your goals.

SIL funding does not generally cover everyday living costs such as:

  • Rent
  • Food
  • Household expenses such as electricity, gas and internet
