A beautiful new commercial flower farm is underway at Sages Cottage Farm that will celebrate diversity and seasonality, while also creating inclusive jobs for Wallara clients.
The flower farm is coming to life thanks to the generous support of the Opalgate Foundation and an anonymous foundation. The groundwork – establishing 10 planting rows to form the backbone of the farm – is already underway.
The goal is to have up to 15 supported employees involved in the flower farm’s operation, from planting and harvesting to making farmgate bouquets.
The project will feature a thoughtfully curated mix of plantings, including vibrant dahlias, native flowers and foliage, and a stunning centrepiece of 150 rare Paeonia rockii peony trees, generously donated by the Wong Family. These peonies – originally from Gansu, China and named the nation’s official flower in 2019 – symbolise prosperity and will produce over 100 fragrant blooms per tree each year.
Other seasonal varieties will also be grown on site, ensuring year-round colour, sensory richness and inclusive horticulture training opportunities in a flower-based micro-enterprise.
Our vision is to create a space that is productive and inviting. It will be an accessible flower display where visitors can experience the blooms and supported employees can develop job skills. Once it’s up and running, you’ll be able to buy fresh flowers at the farmgate and place orders for events.
